"Is There a Finn Specific Sports Injury?" by Frank Newton
There should be a balance. If there is not it is usual for the outer three to win and for the patella to scrape along the outside of the groove and cause pain. In such circumstances the Finn sailor should perform specific physical exercises to improve the medial quads. Any qualified physiotherapist will teach these to you. At times a spell of sailing in the Laser dinghy with its more straight legged hike will be a more enjoyable form of therapy to enable you to return to the Finn with your medial quads in better shape, since they benefit from working in a less flexed position.

"Finn Fundamentals" by Robert Deaves
Although at first sight the Finn rig may seem to be a relatively simple piece of gear compared with other boats of a similar size, almost as many problems can be encountered in tuning it as in two-sailed boats. The first difference that a novice Finn sailor will notice is that the boom is sheeted at an angle to the centreline and never on the centreline. Because the Finn does not have a foresail, airflow is not directed onto the back of the mainsail. The airflow therefore breaks away from the lee side of the sail earlier than it would if a foresail were present.

"Born To Win" by John Bertrand
My friend Robbie Doyle introduced me to the highly competitive Finn racing class in 1971, and I sailed on the Charles River in Boston. Surprisingly, I very quickly mastered this little boat, which races in one of the most combative events in the Olympic Games. I got so good at it that I entered the U.S. National Finn Championships, held at Marion, Massachusetts. After a good regatta, I managed to finish seventh, which pleased me no end.

Thoughts on Sailing to Windward
The first requisite to sailing to windward is having the proper instruments, and having them in optimum working order, e.g. the mast must be exactly right for your weight, and the sail must fit it exactly. You do not adjust the mast to fit the sail, but make the sail to fit the mast. Nowadays, your sailmaker can give you the best deflection data to get the mast right.
